Direct Primary Care (DPC) is simple enough that the industry spent years trying not to understand it.
You pay your doctor a monthly membership — often comparable to a phone bill. In return you get same-week visits, longer appointments, direct messaging, and wholesale pricing on labs and generics. Insurance is not billed for routine care. There is no coding circus in the exam room.
That structure re-aligns incentives. The practice grows by keeping patients healthy and happy, not by maximizing RVUs against a fee schedule. Families combine DPC with a high-deductible plan, an HSA, or a healthcare sharing ministry for major events.
Critics say DPC “isn’t for everyone.” Neither is waiting six weeks for a seven-minute appointment. For conservatives who believe markets and relationships outperform bureaucracy, DPC is one of the clearest reforms already working on the ground — without a new federal program.
